Answers to Your Most Frequently Asked Questions About Kybella®

At beyond | Aesthetics in Ventura and Camarillo, CA, we offer non-surgical treatments that are designed to help you look and feel your best. Kybella® is the only FDA approved injectable for the reduction of submental fat (commonly known as a double chin). Kybella may also be used ‘off-label’ in other areas, such as jowls, bra line, upper arms, and more. In this blog, we’ll answer some of the questions we hear most often from patients who are interested in Kybella.

Does Kybella hurt? How painful is the procedure?

The Kybella injection itself does not typically hurt; after it has been injected there may be a mild burning sensation/stinging/discomfort. It subsides within a few minutes. Touching the area afterward can be a bit painful/sore, but if you continue about your day as normal there should be no lingering pain.

How much does Kybella cost?

Current pricing for Kybella, per vial, is $500 (pricing subject to change). How many vials you will need is based on a number of factors. It is common to need 4 vials for your first treatment. Your provider can help determine the best number of vials for you at your Kybella appointment or at a consultation appointment.

How much downtime is needed after Kybella?

The down time is associated with appearance rather than pain or discomfort. While some patients may experience swelling several weeks, bruising typically subsides within a few days. Swelling varies from person to person and depending on how many vials are administered. In the first week after your treatment, swelling will be noticeable. By the second week after treatment, only those who see you regularly will be able to notice. By the third week after treatment, swelling should subside enough that no one except you will be able to notice it.

What is the Kybella process like?

Your experienced b|A provider will assess the areas of concern and take clinical images. They will also discuss your aesthetic goals and your budget, and explain the recovery period. Your provider then will map out exact areas that will be treated and review your treatment plan before administering the injections. Once injections are complete, aftercare instructions will be provided and a follow-up appointment will be scheduled. Subsequent treatments are done at 6-8 week intervals until the desired result is achieved.

How can I speed up recovery after Kybella?

We usually recommend taking arnica tablets or using a topical arnica gel to aid in recovery after your Kybella treatment. You can also drink pineapple juice as it may help with swelling and/or bruising.

Is Kybella permanent or temporary?

Kybella is permanent, but only in the treated area. Deoxycholic acid is naturally found in our body, it helps break down fat tissue. Once the cells have been eliminated they are gone for good. However, whatever fat cells are left behind can grow in size, so it is recommended to remain at a stable weight to prevent this from occurring.

Can Kybella be done in conjunction with other treatments?

Yes, you can schedule other aesthetic treatments in the same visit as Kybella. Speak to your provider about adding on other services.
