I have been waiting somewhat patiently for the newest Juvederm filler product to be released. I can happily announce that it’s finally here! Volbella is another hyaluronic acid (HA) filler and it’s made with the same Vycross technology that Voluma has. What this means is Volbella is a blend of higher and lower molecular weight HAs along with a mix of long and short chains. This blend allows the HA to have a greater duration than other products on the market used to fill similar areas. Now that’s enough of the technical jargon (I’m a nerd about this stuff :), you’re probably wondering why you should be as excited about this product as I am. Well, Volbella is the answer to a few problem areas that offered challenges to correct in the past.
Vertical Lip Lines
Volbella is the first and only filler that is FDA approved to increase lip volume and soften the appearance of vertical lip lines for up to a year.* It is perfect for someone who wants to subtly increase volume in lips, giving them a very natural enhancement. It’s a fantastic product for first-time patients who have been afraid of filling their lips because they don’t want to look like a real housewife of… fill in the blank. Volbella is also a perfect start for anyone who has small lips but is wanting to start the process of attaining fuller lips gradually.
For the more seasoned patient that has had lip filler, or for the patient who wants to achieve a fuller lip right away, I’m loving using Volbella in conjunction with Juvederm Ultra for the ultimate lip enhancement. First, I use Volbella to provide the lip structure by injecting the Vermillion Border to enhance the lip line and define the Cupid’s Bow and the Philtral Columns. I then inject Juvederm Ultra (or Ultra Plus depending on how much volume we’re going for) in the body of the lip and corners of the mouth to add more volume.

Tear Trough Deformities:
You know those dark circles or bags under the eyes that make people ask if you’re tired, despite having enough sleep? For years, injectors have debated which product should and shouldn’t be injected into this area. The reason tear troughs can be a challenging area is due to the thinness of the skin and the sensitivity to swelling. Traditional hyaluronic acids like Juvederm and Restylane have been industry staples when treating tear troughs but come with risks like having the Tyndall effect and swelling that may come and go. Volbella is a game changer for this treatment. Due to the Vycross technology, Volbella has less gel expansion once it’s injected and it also has a much lower affinity to water. Volbella’s thinner consistency decreases the chance of having Tyndall and it’s doesn’t swell based on water retention and allergies.
Whether it’s a natural lip enhancement, fewer fine lines around the mouth, or hollows under your eyes… Volbella is a new product that can offer solutions with fantastic results.*
