With so many dermal filler products on the market, it can be confusing to keep where each one of them should go. Juvéderm Voluma is best described as “the foundation.” It’s a thicker, more cohesive hyaluronic acid filler that works to lift and volumize. It was the first dermal filler approved for lifting the cheek area, but injectors across the world have found Voluma to be quite useful in a variety of places. More on that later…
When to use Voluma
Often times, patients will come in for a consultation because a specific line or fold is bothering them. For example, the patient below was really bothered by her jowls and marionette lines. I could have easily filled that area and sent the patient on her way. But the problem with simply addressing the “problem area” is that you haven’t corrected the foundation. So over time if we were to continue injecting the same area without also lifting the cheeks, the patient may begin to look odd and less natural. That’s when a little education is needed. By adding volume to the cheek area, we can improve the appearance of the nasolabial folds and marionettes. After we provide the skin with structural support, we can then use other tools like Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus to smooth lines and contour specific problem areas.
